The Saint was the product of an age that could believe in such characters; even as early as WW II, Leslie Charteris realized that his quixotic hero was no part of the mid-20th century. The world does NOT need a Saint, except the one who exists in the first dozen or so novels and collections, who meshes perfectly with his time. None of the movies or TV series--culminating in that abortion of a nadir "starring" Val Kilmer--have been successful in realizing Charteris's creation as he was conceived and portrayed in print, and I wish to Christ they'd stop trying. I love Eliza Dushku, but as Patricia Holm (who was a blonde, among other indelible differences)? Puh-LEEEZE.
