I thought it had been completely authenticated--I think either National Geographic or History Channel did a whole show about it. Otoh, croquet does seem a tad genteel for those Wild West outlaw types.

Anyone who would pay a lot for a picture of anyone is nuts in my book, so the whole thing should be a non-starter.

I thought the article was pretty even-handed--but clearly on the side of unauthenticated. It does seem that the guy who purchased the tintype wants to ignore all the experts' opinions and is leaning on authentication from people who are not really experts in the field. Also, the comments section was very civil even when people disagreed--not to mention overall correct spelling and punctuation.
