The American remake of the 80s has finally been recognized as the masterpiece it always was despite the terrible scorn of the critics of that era. You ain't gonna improve on Roy Scheider or that extraordinary ending--the only time I ever literally got chills in a theater.

If Ben Wheatley is "one of the hottest filmmakers coming through now" I guess it must say something about me that I've never, ever heard of him or his wife.

I still remember seeing that THE WAGES OF FEAR was on late one night in the '80s and carefully setting the VCR to record it, then watching it the next day only to have the last five minutes cut off. I did eventually see it.

SORCERER is a damfine film, but I much prefer the original. And if you can find a copy of Georges Arnaud's book I can guarantee you won't be able to put it down.
