It's certainly news to me that the show ever had decent scripts, let alone writers with impeccable sf pedigree. The one indelible impression imprinted on my kid memory of the show was the incredible cheesiness of the sets and the laughably cheap props and costumes, all neatly skewered for immortality by Harvey Kurtzman & Jack Davis in their MAD parody, Captain Tvideo.

I remember the show pretty much as you do. It was great for those writers, though. I also remember the MAD parody. Great stuff.

I confess that I remember the taste and texture of Powerhouse candy bars, the sponsor, better than anything about the show itself. They weren't very good either.

True, but how could anybody resist a candy bar with a name like that?

Many of the first year episodes of "Captain Video" we're directed by Charlie Polachek who also assembled the first ray gun for the show. I met the late Charlie Polachek several years ago in Austin, TX, where his son, an old friend of mine, has resided for many years.

I hope you got a ray gun for yourself.
