I remember one year we were going nowhere and we drove out to JFK and went to the observation deck to watch planes take off.

And stay off my lawn!

When I was in college, my roomie used to say, "Let's go out to the airport and watch the plane take off."

The big thing for us was to go to Jacksonville Airport with piles of quarters so we could play Pong. We would beg to get to the airport at least an hour before whatever flight we were meeting so we'd have plenty of time for Pong!

I also have terrible memories of bring accosted by the Hare Krishnas at LAX. Some of the airport changes haven't been all bad.

Yes, there are some things about the old days that I don't miss at all.

That reminds me of the scene in MIAMI BLUES with Alex Bladwin as Junior Frenger.

What a great scene. I like that movie a good bit.

When I was a kid I heard my father used to go the airport for fun. I laughed and laughed,

I would take the flowers from the Krishnas and tell them to fuck off when they asked for money.

Every time my mother would fly somewhere she'd buy flight insurance. I was always torn whether I wanted her alive or the $100,000. Fortunately, she survived all of her flights.

They left out 747 piano bars.
