The Yakuza

You could tell it was an American film by the loving depiction of the violence but the rather timid approach to the opportunities for nudity it keeps teasing us with. Paul Schrader and Robert Towne worked to redress this afterward.

Bill,

The movie is available on DVD with commentary by Pollack and some background on Mitchum; both very interesting. The DVD was part of a Mitchum collection about 5 years ago. I think it might be out of print now.

I'll see what's out there.

I had to buy the whole Mitchum collection just to get this flick because they didn't sell it separately at the time. Now it's available for five bucks and change.

Never got around to watching the other movies in the set.

D'oh!

This was a TERRIFIC film. The wife and I watched it on Netflix a couple of months ago, though I'd seen it in theaters when it was first released. Who the heck knew Sydney Pollack had such ACTION chops?
