David Carradine, R. I. P.

BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Kung Fu star Carradine found dead: "Kill Bill and Kung Fu star David Carradine has been found dead in a Bangkok hotel room.

Thai police told the BBC the 72-year-old was found by a hotel maid sitting in a wardrobe with a rope around his neck and body on Thursday morning.

The US star was in Thailand filming his latest film Stretch, according to his personal manager Chuck Binder."

The followup reports suggest they think it suicide. No fun at all.

I always though Carradine was underrated as an actor. Sometimes "simple" roles like his Kwai Chang Caine are the most difficult to pull off. A real loss.

His earlier TV series from 1966, little noted and not long remembered, was SHANE. One episode sticks in my mind because it guest-starred another then-up-and-coming young actor with a '60s vibe, Bruce Dern. And of course there was BOXCAR BERTHA and the spread that he and Barbara Hershey did for Playboy. He certainly had an interesting career.
