3 Stooges Update

MGM gets its 'Stooges' - Entertainment News, Film News, Media - Variety: "MGM and the Farrelly brothers are closing in on their cast for 'The Three Stooges.'

Studio has set Sean Penn to play Larry, and negotiations are underway with Jim Carrey to play Curly, with the actor already making plans to gain 40 pounds to approximate the physical dimensions of Jerome 'Curly' Howard.

The studio is zeroing in on Benicio Del Toro to play Moe."

If they also announce Seth Rogen as Shemp, Will Ferrell as Curly Joe, Kevin James as Joe Besser, and Robert deNiro as Emil Sitka, my day will be complete. Actually, if this thing absolutely has to be produced on pain of the world ending, at least Kevin James would be a more likely Curly than Jim Carrey.

The only way to save this casting disaster is to cast Art Scott as Vernon Dent.

In my research for the Buddy Hackett bio I'm writing I found out that when Curly first died Buddy Hackett was asked to join the Three Stooges as his replacement. Buddy refused.

Hackett was able to mug w/o getting his head hammered and sawed. Good choice.
