How Many Have You Read?

Walden, and 99 other Free Online Books Every Student of Humanity Should Read | Online Education at UniversitiesAndColleges.org: "The beauty of the public domain is that after an author’s death, his or her works eventually become freely available to the public. This allows websites like Project Guttenberg to index countless classic texts for people to read online or download.

This is an opportunity no enterprising mind can neglect. To help you find the best of the best, we’ve compiled a list of books that seek to uncover the nature of humanity. Happy reading!"

On the one hand, I've read a fair number of the books. On the other, if I had just waited all my life until they were available on the internet, I would have saved a ton of money...

I've read a third of these, as far as I can remember. And excerpts from or portions of many more. When it comes to Shakespeare, for example, I've read extensively, but not the complete works. (Yes, I was an English major!)

I was an English major, too. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I'll bet Steven was, as well.

14 completely.

50 & 2/3 out of 100 read. I have only read about 30 of Shakespeare's 37 plays, but I'm not well-read enough to do the math and rounded that off to 1; but I'm just smart enough to figure out that the first two books of The Divine Comedy = 2/3 of the whole.

How come The Odyssey didn't make the cut?

About 50 if you count movies versions and Classic Comics. If you just count the books maybe half a dozen.

Thirty-three, counting a few I read in condensed form or adaptations (The Iliad, Don Quixote). I didn't count movies I've seen but not read (Sense and Sensibility), but did count plays, like Hedda Gabler. Not too bad. Not an English major.
