I would be mildly surprised if there haven't been 60+ million copies sold worldwide of Poe collections, Holmes collections, several of Twain's and Hugo's novels...and so on...perhaps the Doyle and Poe don't count as varying selections...

That must be the reason. If there were only one single Holmes collection, it would be there.
