NPR's Top 100 Songs of the 20th Century

This is quite a list, with a paragraph about each song. The list is alphabetical, and the songs aren't ranked.

Bill:Great link! I'm going to have to make some time to listen to the interviews.

I couldn't figure out why there weren't any Beatles/Stones tunes until I reread the header, which specifies 'American musical works...' [though the list does include 'Mack The Knife']
but any list that has 'Gone With The Wind' and ' I Want To Be Sedated ' is pretty damn cool and inclusive.

P.S.--Ok, Tom Waits should'a been on there,lol.

Too many great songs left off of this list to be taken seriously.

No Rolling Stones (Sympathy for the Devil)

No Beatles (Day in the Life)

No Leonard Cohen (Everybody Knows)

Like a Rolling Stone from Dylan? Christ, it's a good song but doesn't compare with the Hurricane and dozen or so other Dylan greats.

No Bob Seger?

No Cab Calloway?

How about Louis Prima's Like a Gigalo?

Flawed list, to say the least. But an impossible list to please most anyone.

I listened to the background material on a few of the songs ("Good Vibrations," "Crazy," and "Great Balls of Fire," and thought they did a great job. I don't agree with all of their choices, of course, and never heard of more than I care to admit, but I've bookmarked the site and plan to visit it many more times. Thanks for the great link. They ought to call you the Linkmeister.

Where's 'Louie, Louie'?
And 'The Ballad of Davy Crockett'?
Someone should be horsewhipped.
