The End of the Western

Richard Wheeler says on his blog today: "I intend to devote this web log to a single topic over the next months, the collapse of western fiction. Readers who are not interested, or who would prefer diversity, should check in next spring when I will begin to tackle other topics."

I don't know about you, but I'll be following his commentary with great interest.

I wish this guy would find another song to sing. Writers have been bemoaning the "the end of the western" for decades, yet new careers continue to be launched and every month I see new westerns on the stands by fine writers like Gorman and others, and reprints of Grey, Brand, L'Amour and others. Maybe things ain't what they used to be but then, what is? Relax, gang. The western isn't going anywhere. And you could say the same about "The Collapse of Richard Wheeler's Career."
