Uh, DRAGNET? And yes, PRIME SUSPECT.

Some good - if obvious - choices, but some dross that doesn't belong.

Yes, DRAGNET. Any list of cop shows without that one is obviously bogus.

Well, when your list is compiled by (presumably) a 25 year old who has probably never heard of DRAGNET, what else can you expect?

DRAGNET! (the 1950s version, that is)

Yes, I like to pretend the revived version doesn't exist.

And no Adam 12?

Any list of 40 cop shows that leaves out EASY STREETS and the much-reviled but wonderful COP ROCK, yet includes THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW, is not worth the pixels it's made of.

I would have been very disappointed if they'd left out Andy.

Cop Rock sucked.

Yeah, Dragnet (should be #1) is an unforgiveable omission. And 24 seems to be less of a cop show and more, somehow, of an intelligence-agency show...so it'd be an easy fix. (I must admit I also think Law & Order should rank ahead of SVU, and I don't know much about any of the shows in the last 10-15 years. Also, this may be a stretch, but what about Gunsmoke? After all, the main character was a law enforcement officer, right?)
