The Surprising Story of Famed JFK Impersonator Vaughn Meader

The Surprising Story of Famed JFK Impersonator Vaughn Meader (and Why You've Never Heard of Him)

This story isn't surprising to me at all.  In fact, it's familiar to me, and I've certainly heard of Vaughn Meader and listened to his recordings. That's because I'm Old.

I own not one but two copies of First Family. I remember my father playing it for me when I was a young teen back in the 70s, and I loved it. I even tried my hand, for a little while, at my own JFK accent because of Vaughn Meader.

Of course I've heard of him. Sheesh. Who didn't have THE FIRST FAMILY?

And get off my lawn, whippersnappers!

There's a story (possibly apocryphal) that either the night of or the night after JFK's assassination, Lenny Bruce opened his act with, "Wow--I feel bad for Vaughan Meader."

Deb, the version I've heard, and more likely for Lenny, was "Vaughan Meader is f*cked!"

That's probably more accurate!
