Um, no, no, no, no, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

1. Who is Denis Levant?

A lot of good choices but as usual, too young, too modern, too new.

Let's see, off the top of my head:

All of Groucho's characters, like Rufus T. Firefly
The Wicked Witch of the West
Hannibal Lecter
Vincent Gambini & Mona Lisa Vito
Ratzo Rizzo
Popeye Doyle
Jean Brodie
Anton Chigurh

I misread the headline and thought the article was going to be about "character actors." As it was, the article seemed to be all over the map, but given how board the category is (movie characters? way to keep your options open, dude) that's no surprise. Each of us could easily come up with our own list of 50 and have little overlap with anyone else's list. How about:

Robert Shaw's Quint in "Jaws"

Angelica Huston's Lily in "The Grifters"

Richard Dreyfus's Roy in "Close Encounters"

Susan Sarandon's Annie in "Bull Durham"

Angela Lansbury as the world's worst mother in "The Manchurian Candidate"

The list goes on...

Sidney Greenstreet as Count Fosco in "The Woman in White"

A fine, quirky list. and since you asked, some off the top of my head:

Claude (John Dehner) in MAN OF THE WEST
Joel Cairo
Mary Shelley (Elsa Lanchester) in BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN
Boone(Pernell Roberts) in RIDE LONESOME
The Wolfman

Hmmm . . . Pee-Wee Herman, Sugar Kane, and Ethan Edwards. I’d say the list is pretty much definitive.
