A Movie I Haven't Seen

I can't remember if I've run this before, but it's probably worth a repeat.

WOMAN IN THE DARK is a great, unsung little film and is easily (and cheaply!) available on Amazon.

I'm reading the novella now!!! It's from Knopf, 1988, with a weird intro from Robert B. Parker ... and nowhere is it said it was made into a movie!! All Parker talks about is the Flitcraft Parable. I say novella because the book is maybe 70 pages total. Did he novella-ize a script? It has an odd feel, too. Oh, it's Hammett, but it does not have that Hammett "soul" to it.

Sadly, Clara Bow's career was beginning to slide, while Cooper's would continue its ascent. She didn't really transition to talkies and her drinking problem didn't help.

IMDB tells us that the Bow-Cooper pairing never made it past the talking stage. Neither was in Woman in the Dark, released in 1934. Fray Wray, Ralph Bellamy, and Melvyn Douglas were the stars. Clara Bow was already done in Hollywood; her last pic was in 1933.
