Katherine Anne Porter? Really? More famous than, say, Larry McMurtry or Robert E. Howard? I'm not buying it. However, she was born in Indian Creek, south of Brownwood, the same place my dad was born, so I'm glad to see her getting a little recognition.

Some of the smaller or more obscure states (sorry) have authors I don't know at all. Maybe that's just me.

Jeffrey Eugenides for Michigan? How about Elmore Leonard or Jim Harrison.

I would have guessed Larry McMurtry for Texas. Louisiana has Anne Rice. I would have gone with Walker Percy or perhaps even John Kennedy Toole, but I guess I haven't read enough vampire novels.

Rick Steves from Washington. I never even heard of him. Another bogus list.

Yeah, I'd say this list is suspect. The only one I could say was certainly true is Stephen King for Maine. You know because he's Stephen King.
