Virginia Leads the Way

Slate Magazine: It seems that since 1986, a Virginia law has barred schools from opening before Labor Day because it’s bad for the amusement park industry.

Jeez, by Labor Day our schools have been open a month. Our school system opens the first week of August. This way, the entire first semester is completed before the Christmas break.
