Blake Edwards, R. I. P.

The Associated Press: Director Blake Edwards dies in Southern California: "Blake Edwards, the director and writer known for clever dialogue, poignance and occasional belly-laugh sight gags in 'Breakfast at Tiffany's,' ''10' and the 'Pink Panther' farces, is dead at age 88.

Edwards died from complications of pneumonia at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica, said publicist Gene Schwam. Blake's wife, Julie Andrews, and other family members were at his side. He had been hospitalized for about two weeks."

Hat tip to David Cranmer.

What a great line-up of films. There are better ones in the bunch, but among my personal favorites are S.O.B. and SUNSET.

I'll always applaud him for casting and story line plotting for "The Pink Panther", a light comedy with all parts of the movie (including the intro cartoon) nearly perfectly done!

He also produced some great TV shows, most notably "Peter Gunn" and "Mr. Lucky." The theme for both of these was composed by he longtime collaborator Henry Mancini.

I noted his work with Mancini, too, and it's sad news; in recent I was thinking about the director Edwards. 12/16

I have just watched TRAIL OF THE PINK PANTHER [had never seen it], and a few weeks ago THE PINK PANTHER STRIKES AGAIN.
