Travis McGee Update

Travis McGee heading for long-awaited screen test - Los Angeles Times: "But it looks as if McGee may finally get his place in the sun: New York-based producer Amy Robinson is in the late stages of developing the first McGee novel, 'The Deep Blue Good-By,' for production by Fox. Robinson calls McGee 'the man every woman wants to be with and every man wants to be.'

Though the project, which puts McGee on the trail of a seductive and dangerous ex-con who's left a trail of broken women in his wake, is not greenlighted and there is no director or talent attached, supporters are hopeful for the first time in decades. Sources close to the project say the studio is bullish on McGee."

And like Charles Williams DEAD CALM they'll set it in modern times instead of the period the novel. And it will be a cluster fuck like the purported Jonny Quest movie and most of the superhero movies done by "true" fans. DARKER THAN AMBER (1970) had Rod Taylor as Travis McGee, Theodore Bikel as Meyer, the lovely Ahna Capri (ENTER THE DRAGON) and the always likable Big Bill Smith and Jane Russell as the Alabama Tigress. JDM liked the solid adaption of the novel. Maligned, but I think decently done for a possible pilot for a TV series was Travis McGee: The Empty Copper Sea with Sam Elliott as McGee, Gene Evans as Meyer, Barry Corbin as Sheriff Hack Ames, Richard Farnsworth as Van Harder, Geoffrey Lewis as John Tuckerman, Vera Miles as Julie Lawless, Katharine Ross as Gretel Howard.

My guess? Shia LaBoeuf as McGee, Adam Sandler as Meyer.

I mean, be honest; do you really expect Hollywood to do much better?

I was thinking Seth Rogen as Meyer.

Teh way Hollywood screws everything up and loves to make changes, maybe they will turn it into a comedy and cast Queen Latiffa as McGee.

Strange as it sounds Queen Latiffa might make a credible Meyer... If Hollywood can cast Woopi as ...

The Busted Flush will be a thunderboat and there'll be lots of high tech explosions, flashing lights, extreme closeups, grainy & jerky action scenes, floating cameras (no pun intended), and a rap soundtrack. Just as JDM envisioned it. I can't wait.

Probably be Samuel L. "I can't say no to anything" Jackson as McGee and Cedric the Entertainer as Meyer.

Or Eddie Murphy as Travis and Morgan Freeman as Meyer.
