Yma Sumac, 'Peruvian songbird' with multi-octave range, dies at 86 - Los Angeles Times: "Yma Sumac, the Peruvian-born singer whose spectacular multi-octave vocal range and exotic persona made her an international sensation in the 1950s, has died. She was 86."

Did you not recently post something on her? Or did that Charlie Parker Gunslinger blog do that? Either way I enjoyed her singing; even if I did do so in a kitschy way.

That was probably the Gunslinger blog. I think they have this news, too.

Happier news: Dion will be on NPR's FRESH AIR tomorrow to hype his album of covers of late '50s/early '60s hits. Sounds good, if a bit slick, in the excerpts played in the teaser.
